Back up the ProNest database

ProNest uses a SQL database to store records of materials, customers, work orders, inventory plates, library parts, job data, users, and more. You can create a full backup of this database at any time. A database backup can be used to safeguard against data loss in case of hardware failure. It is also used to move data from one PC or server to another.

Points to consider

  • Save your database backup file to a different drive than the actual database.
  • Backing up your database should be one part of a larger, comprehensive data recovery plan that is designed and implemented to safeguard all of your important files against a potentially damaging event, such as hardware failure.
  • A user account with a Programmer, Production Manager, or Admin role is required to make backups in the web app.
  • An Admin account is required to view and delete database backups made by other users.

Back up the database

ProNest Server includes a backup utility which you can use to back up the ProNest database. Backup files are stored with a .bak extension.

  1. Open the ProNest web app.
    • Enter http://localhost:1480 in the address bar of your web browser.
    • If ProNest Server is hosted on a different machine than the one you are connecting from, substitute the host and port to point to ProNest Server.

  2. Go to > Backups.
  3. You can also get to this page from ProNest by clicking File tab > Help > Create Backup.

  4. Select Create Backup.
  5. Enter a note like "Database backup copy" for your reference.
  6. Select Backup. A backup file will be saved on the database host in the following folder: C:\ProgramData\Hypertherm CAM\ProNest Server\Backups.
  7. Next, select Download to save a local copy of the backup file.

The backup file will be saved with the name ProNest.BAK.
